Don’t fence your kids in. If the kid balks, give them little assignments like “draw what you ordered for dinner”, or “draw something they see in the restaurant”. And we keep them ready by the door along with paper, water color pencils, carefully selected coloring books, activity books, as well as reading and math books. The more kids are engrossed in an activity at a restaurant, the more I get to talk to my wife. If this is important to you (gotcha), should you really leave it in the hands of the restaurant to entertain your kids. The kids have their own bags of which they take ownership. And don’t get me started on the banality of restaurant-provided coloring sheets that stunt your child’s artistic development. I am tired of ugly-colored, breakable restaurant crayons. Even the best restaurants serve visual junk food. Take back eating out by planning ahead, just a little....
